CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It’s was a welterweight boxing match on Friday night at Hannah Field between the Beulah Miners and the Valley City Hi-Liners.

The Hi-Liners struck the first blow with a 2 yard touchdown from Nate Rodriguez, followed by a John Halgrimson 2 point conversion on the ground, which gave Valley City an 8-0 lead with 2:42 left in the first quarter.

Beulah countered with their defense on a 75 yard  fumble recovery for a touchdown to tie the game at 8 apiece, after a Matthew Krizan 2 point conversion with 11:44 left in the second quarter.

Rodriguez scored the final points of the first half on a 3 yard rushing touchdown. Levi Nix hit Anthony Capistran on the two point conversion to give the Hi-Liners a 16-8 lead at the half.

The Hi-Liners scored their lone touchdown in the second-half on a two yard rush from Nix. Halgrimson rushed in the two point conversion to make it 24-8 with 6:41 left in the third quarter.

Beulah came out swinging after that with a Michael Morris 6 yard touchdown to bring the Miners within 10 points with 1:58 left to in the third quarter.

Then, Casey Walcker hit Joshua Remmick on a 21 yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 24-21 after a Morris PAT with 3:11 left to in the game.

Valley City would run out the clock on the ensuing drive to improve to 7-1 overall and 6-0 in the West Region, while Beulah drops to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the West Region.

Valley City hosts Bismarck St. Mary’s on Saturday, October 24th at 4 p.m. from Hannah Field. You can listen to the game on AM 1490 KOVC.
