CITY (VCSU) – Valley City State University head softball coach Mike Mook and staff will be offering an all-skills clinic on Oct. 17 for elite softball athletes, ages 13-18, looking to prepare themselves for the next level. With extensive video analysis and attentive, detailed instruction, VCSU coaches strive to make a lasting difference and improve the play of camp attendees.
The camp features two sessions. The first is for both position players and pitchers, and runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The second portion of the camp is for pitchers and catchers and runs from 4-6 p.m.
Cost to attend is $125 for the first session, and $80 for the second session. All campers will be provided a t-shirt and take-home reading materials on the mental game and on the college recruiting process.

2015 Camp Schedule
9 to 11 a.m. – Defensive Skill Acquisition
In the first two hours, position players will move through detailed and graduated progressions, working from video analysis of throwing mechanics to refined instruction in footwork, glove work and fundamentals of positional play.
11 a.m. to Noon – Campus Tour/Lunch
Lunch will be provided.
Noon to 2 p.m. – Offensive Skill Acquisition
In this portion of the clinic, athletes will move through a circuit, analyzing and building swing mechanics, polishing short game skills and fine-tuning base running.
2 to 4 p.m. – Game Play/Question and Answer
Campers will put a capstone on the day with high-energy, competitive games within their age groups designed to showcase what they have learned. VCSU coaches will be on hand to instruct campers in game-day strategies and tips on the mental game.
4 to 6 p.m. – Pitching and Catching
Pitchers and catchers who have registered for this session will continue from 4 to 6 p.m. Pitchers will focus in the first hour on mechanics and in the second hour on movement pitches. VCSU coaches will break down pitching mechanics and spins with high-definition video analysis of mechanics and spins, providing unique insight into individual pitching dynamics.
Catchers will work on receiving and blocking in the first hour and throwing mechanics and footwork in the second hour. VCSU coaches will analyze the nuances of receiving, blocking and throwing in exacting detail.
