CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Kindred school bus driver who had both of her legs amputated after a crash last Friday has died from her injuries.

Cathy Jostad’s daughter, Lisa, posted on her caringbridge site saying, “sadly after a courageous fight mom passed away today shortly after midnight…words cannot express how much everyone’s support has meant to us.”

Jostad was driving a bus involved in a crash with several semis on a foggy highway near Kindred last Friday. Family and friends say Jostad put her life on the line to protect more than 30 fourth graders on the bus.

Funeral arrangements for Cathy Jostad are pending with Boulger funeral home in Fargo.

North Dakota Superintendent of Public Instruction Kristen Baesler issued this statement on the death of Cathy Jostad. “I am deeply saddened about the news of the death of Kindred school bus driver Cathryn Jostad. Mrs. Jostad’s dedication to her job and the safety of her passengers is an example for all of us. North Dakota’s public school system relies on people like her to bring our students to school and to return them home safely. Mrs. Jostad did this job superbly for many years, in all weather conditions. She had the trust and support of Kindred’s children and their parents alike. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends, and to the students, parents and school personnel who are mourning the loss of Mrs. Jostad today.”
