Richard “Dick” Hansen was born October 17, 1924, in Valley City, North Dakota, to Hans A. and Eda (Davidson) Hansen. He graduated from Green Consolidated School, Green Township, and North Dakota Agriculture College (NDSU) in 1950. He married Ruby C. Anderson on June 17, 1951. They lived in Northwood, North Dakota where he was On-The-Farm Training Instructor for four years. They lived in Sheyenne, North Dakota and then on the Hansen Family Farm in Green Township, Valley City. They raised five children while farming full time. Dick served on many township and county boards. Since retiring he enjoyed golf, woodcarving and being in the outdoors observing wildlife and nature. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and Sheyenne Woodcarvers.

He is survived by his wife Ruby of 64 years, and children, Gregory Hansen, Scott and Sandy Hansen, Lyle and Angela Hansen, Karen and Gregory Burchill, all of Valley City, and Kristine and Rick Swanson of River Falls, Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren and four step-grandsons; and 12 great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Rachel Tompt and sister-in-law, Helen Hansen, both of Fargo, ND; and a brother-in-law, Carlton Anderson, Valley City.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Howard and Gordon; sister-in-law, Virginia Hansen; and a grandson, Andrew Hansen. Dick died on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Mercy Hospital, Valley City.

The funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, October 3, at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. Visitation will be one hour before the service in the chapel.
