N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Governor Jack Dalrymple and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Kirsten Baesler have selected the 2016 Teacher of the Year award.
“North Dakota has one of the best educational systems in the nation and that is due in large part to the great work that is going on in classrooms across our state,” Dalrymple said. “Amy and the Teacher of the Year finalists exemplify the innovative and inspiring work being performed by North Dakota’s teachers and their dedication to shaping the lives and futures of our young people.”
Minot Kindergarten Teacher Amy Neal at Lewis and Clark Elementary received this year’s award. She was selected from a pool of four finalists that included Matthew Myrold, a special education instructor with Carl Ben Eielson Middle School in Fargo; Heath Rydell, a physical education and health teacher with South Elementary School in West Fargo; and Heather Tomlin-Rohr, a kindergarten teacher with Louis L’Amour Elementary School in Jamestown.
Nominations for Teacher of the Year must come from a teacher, school administrator, student or parent and are reviewed by a seven-member selection panel. Neal will advance to the national Teacher of the Year program.
