N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Police & Fire Committee has approved a first reading of an ordinance to allow the approval of UTV’s on city streets.

The committee first considered an ordinance for the use of both ATV’s and UTV’s on city streets, which was suggested by Police Chief Scott Edinger. It was defeated by the City Council on a 3-2 vote with Councilmen Charlie Kourajian, Dan Buchanan and Steve Brubakken opposed.

Councilman Kourajian told the committee he had driven a UTV and found them safe, much like a small car. Councilman Brubakken stated that the National Safety Council does not recommend the use of them on city streets. Mayor Andersen suggested law enforcement meet and bring information to be presented for public review.

A First Reading was unanimously approved for UTV use only on city streets.
