CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) The shared use paths for runners, walkers, bikers or skateboarders will be busy on Saturday during the “Let’s Walk Valley City” event. There will be a number of fun activities for all ages during this free Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm.
Join the fun on the north side of Jefferson Elementary or at Pioneer Park in Valley City. There will be over 25 vendors, games, activities, healthy snacks, prizes (including a Fit Bit) and free giveaways.
Free snacks available including fruit, yogurt parfaits, chocolate milk and Giant fruits giving out apples and baby carrots on Saturday.
Here are some of the prizes up for grabs: Two 20 inch bikes from Handy Hardware and Rental, swim pass at AmericInn, Fit Bit from CHI Mercy Health, pair of athletic shoes from Bongs Bootery, one month family membership to the Fitness Center, one free cholesterol screen from CCHD, 23 picket carriers for keys or cash from Quilted Ceiling 50 jump ropes from Sanford Health and a free On The Move membership.
Try yoga with Janice Berg from “Find the Balance” studio, taste delicious fruit and yogurt parfaits prepared by VCSU nursing students or draw with sidewalk chalk and blow bubbles with Circle of Friends preschool staff.
“Our newly expanded multi use path system is great for transportation as well as exercise,” states Tyler Jacobson, Director of Valley City Parks and Recreation Dept. Walking, biking, running, jogging and skateboarding are all great ways to get out and enjoy the paths.
Regular physical activity has been shown to reduce the risks of developing many types of chronic disease such as hypertension, stroke, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and many forms of cancer.
The “Let’s Walk Valley City” event is sponsored in part by the Young People’s Healthy Heart program at CHI Mercy Health and Barnes On The Move Partnership of Valley City.
The Barnes ON THE MOVE partnership received $3000 in grant funds from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) Rural “Official Sponsor of Recess” Program to sponsor the Let’s Walk Valley City event.
City-County Health District applied for the grant on behalf of the Barnes ON THE MOVE Partnership and Young People’s Healthy Heart Program at CHI Mercy Health will be managing the event.
