Hazel Violet Korsgarden was born April 4, 1923 south of Twin Valley, MN, the daughter of Thorvald and Clara (Smestad) Korsgarden.   She grew up on a farm near Twin Valley until the family moved into town.  She graduated from Twin Valley High School in 1941.  On March 1, 1942, she was united in marriage to Louis “Lou” Edlund in Detroit Lakes, MN.  She made her home there while Lou served in the US Army Airforce during WWII.  Upon Lou’s discharge they continued to make their home in Detroit Lakes until 1947 when they moved to Buffalo, ND, where they made their home for 31 years.  In 1961, they founded Edlund Construction.  They moved to Valley City in 1978.  Lou died on March 16, 2000.  Hazel continued to live in her home.  Hazel was an avid reader, and if you got started taking about politics she had her opinion too as she kept up on the happenings going on locally, in Washington, DC, and the world.

Her church homes were Buffalo Lutheran Church, Buffalo, and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City.

She is survived by her sons, Gary (Barb) Edlund, Detroit Lakes, MN, and Mark (Kathy) Edlund, Minneapolis, MN; five grandchildren, Dana Edlund, Paige (Darren) Bjornson, Jodi Edlund, Jamison (Jessica) Edlund, and Sean (Nicole) Edlund; nine great grandchildren; and two sisters, Gladys (Bob) Graham, Tustin, CA and Beatrice Burgess, Manassas, VA.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Lillian, and two brothers, Charles and LeRoy.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.  An online guestbook for Hazel is available at www.olivernathanchapel.com.
