N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A couple in Stutsman County have decided to plant hops and are one of only a few producers in the state of North Dakota.

Mike and Lindsay Ostlie moved to North Dakota in 2011 and since then, have established themselves in Stutsman County with a 2.5 acre orchard for growing fruits and vegetables.

A half acre of Ostlie’s Sunnyside Acres has recently been planted with Hops according to Lindsay. She pointed out that growing hops has really just started in the state and they wanted to get in on it.

Ostlie’s Sunnyside Acres is located roughly 35 minutes of Jamestown and 4 miles off of Highway 281. After the hops have developed and have grown, the Ostlie’s plan to process the hops locally as well.

A first ever Hops Field Day will be held on the farm on August 15th at 3 PM. NDSU Williston Research Extension Center’s Kyla Splichal will be discussing her research on hops for hobbyist and home brewers. You can learn more or purchase tickets for the event by clicking here.
