N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Valley City opened up District 6 play up against Edgeley. Valley City entered the tournament as the #1 seed while Edgeley was the #8 seed. Valley City would come out on top of this game by score of 20-2.
Valley City would jump out early in the first by taking a lead of 7-0 after the first inning. 5 runs in the second, 2 in the third, and 6 in the fourth would take VC to the final score of 20-2 in 5 innings.
Mitchel Taylor would pick up the win for VC. Taylor would throw all 5 innings giving up 2 runs on 8 hits while walking 2 and striking out 3.
On offense Valley City would collectively pick up 15 hits throughout the game. Rylee Bjork led the way going 3 for 3 on the day while also picking up 3 RBI’s. Riley Miller also picked up 3 hits as well in the game.
Coaches Comments:
“We played well today, we did what we needed to do in this game.”
“Bjork and Miller had good games for us at the plate. They came up in big spots and put ball in play and made things happen for us.”
“Mitchel did what Mitchel does, he threw strikes which allows us to play defense behind him and make for quick innings when we are out on defense.”
In the second day of play at the district tournament Valley City would go up against Ellendale and would come out victorious 13-0 in 5 innings. Valley City would put up 1 run in the frist, 3 in the second, 1 in the third and then explode for 8 in the fourth to take a 13-0 lead. Dawson Dietrich would shut down Ellendale in the top of the fifth to secure the win.
Dietrich pitched all 5 innings picking up the win. He gave up 0 runs on 2 hits while walking 1 and striking out 11.
In the game, Valley City would pick up 10 hits over the four and half innings. Leading the way for VC was Dietrich, he went 4 for 4 picking up 2 RBI’s. Bryce Nelson would chip in going 1 for 2 while picking up 3 RBI’s.
Coaches Comments:
“What a game Dawson had today. Had a shaky first batter where he hit the batter, but after that he settled in and kept Ellendale off balance all game, especially the top part of their order. At the plate he was locked in and hitting everything solidly.”
“That 4th inning we just found our stride at the plate. We ended up collecting 3 triples and a double alone in that inning which helped us get ahead where we could end the game early by the run rule.
Next up for VC will be Monday when they take on LaMoure at 12:30 in Linton at the District tournament. Game winner will be to get into the championship game on Tuesday.
Valley City Record now sits at 27-5 on the year.
