CITY, N.D. (VCSU) The Valley City State University women’s basketball team has landed the top spot in the nation among NAIA institutions on the WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor Rolls presented by AT&T.

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Wednesday that VCSU’s 3.692 GPA led NAIA teams in the classroom last season and was the sixth-best GPA across all divisions of NCAA, NAIA and junior college.

Head coach Jill DeVries‘ squad posted the NAIA-best 3.692 grade point average throughout the 2014-15 school year. Teams are nominated for the honor by a WBCA-member head coach. The combined grade point average is inclusive of all student-athletes on the roster for the entire season.

The Viking women had six players make the President’s Honor Roll (4.0) in fall semester and five players make the Dean’s Honor Roll (3.5). In the spring semester, six Vikings made the President’s Honor Roll and two made the Dean’s Honor Roll.

Five Vikings were named NAIA Scholar-Athletes by the National Office this season, which means they must be a junior or senior and maintain at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA. Junior Tracie Boehmlehner and Courtney Dixon received the honor, along with three seniors: Megan Trautman, Sierra Even and Steph Pedersen.
