ND – (NewsDakota.com) Construction on the Billion dollar nitrogen fertilizer plant near Spiritwood is moving forward despite a recent article in the Forum that said it’s on hold.

According to Cenex Harvest States, construction is progressing as officials try to work out the details of obtaining a steady source of water required to operate the plant.

In the story rural water systems and local landowners expressed concern about the plant’s water supply requirements during a dry spell.

One plan under discussion is to bringing water from the Missouri River near Bismarck. The plant will use roughly 4,000 to 5,000 gallons of water per minute.

More than 700 construction workers will be working on the plant at any given time.  A work crew camp will be used to house several workers.

The plant is expected to employ about 170 people once it’s fully operational in 2018.
