(NewsDakota.com) The head coach of the Oakes High School girls basketball team has resigned.
Anthony Bryant announced on his FaceBook page Tuesday morning that he has accepted a seventh grade teaching position at Liberty Middle School in West Fargo; in part, to be closer to family.
“I am absolutely heartbroken to leave Oakes.” Bryant said in his post. “The community, staff and most importantly, the KIDS, were amazing. I get so attached to my students, and the thought of not being there is just devastating. I’m excited about my new position, but a part of my heart will always be a Tornado. “
In Bryant’s lone season as coach, the Tornadoes finished with an overall record of 4-17 and a 2-4 mark in Class B District 5 play.
Bryant’s departure has opened yet another vacancy for the girls head coaching position in the last few years; Jason Schmitz coached the 2013-14 season before resigning to take a job in Arizona, and Caitlyn Wojahn was the coach for the previous two seasons before leaving for a position in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
