Derby, 86, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 12, 2015 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Lorraine Headland was born on October 24, 1928, in Alfred, ND, the daughter of Ross and Marvel (Johnson) Headland. She grew up on a farm near Adrian, ND and graduated from Adrian High School in 1945. She earned a diploma from Central Dakota Commercial College in Jamestown and worked at White Drug Café. Lorraine taught school in Sinclair Township, Stutsman County before she married Irving Derby on July 10, 1946 in Jamestown. They made their home on a farm near Adrian in 1947 and then purchased a farm 2 ½ miles northeast of Montpelier where they farmed and raised a family. Lorraine was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Montpelier, PTA, V.F.W. Auxiliary and Homemakers club.  They eventually moved to Jamestown in 1986 where she worked at the Goodwill Store and for Mayer Truck Line. Lorraine was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.

Lorraine was devoted to her family and loved spending time with them, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends on Thursdays and at the Senior Center.

Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Wanda (Randy) Spitzer, Mandan, ND and Bonnie (Chuck) Schmitz, Jamestown; four grandchildren, Lorri (Chris) Strand, Jason Spitzer, Shawn Spitzer, and Niki Schmitz; two great-grandchildren, Zach Strand and Ethan Strand; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Irving; son, Darrel; sister, Deloris Williams; and brother, Ross Headland.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2015 at United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown with Bill Weispfenning officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 17, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 17, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, ND.
