– North Dakota Senator’s John Hoeven, Heidi Heitkamp and Congressman Kevin Cramer announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded two grants totaling 0,000 to the Ellendale Municipal Airport Authority and the Jamestown Regional Airport Authority for runway infrastructure improvements and to increase safety.
The Municipal Airport Authority in Ellendale will receive $300,000 to fully rehabilitate the lighting system for a runway as well as build a new vertical/visual guidance system to make the airport more accessible to pilots by providing improved approaches to the ends of the runway.
In Jamestown the Regional Airport Authority will receive $100,000 to enhance airport safety by reducing hazardous wildlife situations through wetland mitigation.
Hoeven said the DOT grants to the airport authorities in Jamestown and Ellendale will help keep pilots and passengers safe, and will allow these airports to continue to provide great service to central and south central North Dakota.
Heitkamp said many of our regional airports have felt the stress of North Dakota’s population growth, but with strong federal investments – like these funds – we can continue to make sure all North Dakotans are safe.
Cramer said access to quality transportation is important for rural states like North Dakota. These funds provide resources for these airport authorities to improve their facilities and to serve the needs of their community.
