(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes Post 36 American Legion baseball team swept their doubleheader series against Lidgerwood Post 84 on Thursday night at Cummings Field.

Game one saw Oakes win 7-1. Jon Tyre earned the victory for Post 36 lasting all seven innings, allowing the lone run on three hits, while striking out 12. The Oakes defense put down the final 16 batters in order, while the offense registered a trio of doubles in the sixth inning. 

The second game saw the Oakes pitching staff combine for a shutout, with timely offense in an 8-0 victory. Bryce Meehl pitched five innings, and struck out nine. At the plate, Meehl was three for four with two singles, a triple and a run scored. Cole Kelly picked up a double.

Oakes now stands at 6-2 in Class B Southeast Region play, while Lidgerwood is now 4-4 in the region.

Oakes is scheduled to compete at a tournament in Ellendale this weekend; with their opening game against Lisbon Post 7 on Saturday. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 8:50 a.m., with first pitch at 9 a.m.
