N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Killdeer teenager accused of texting while driving in a collision that killed a man from Minnesota is being charged in the incident.

18 year-old Ashley Birkle was charged Thursday with negligent homicide and possession of alcohol as a minor following the February 2nd accident on I-94 near Jamestown. The NDHP reported that Birkle crossed the median and collided head-on with a pickup that killed 61 year-old driver David Harold. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bickle reportedly told troopers she fell asleep, but investigators claim that phone records show text messaging activity during her time on the Interstate. She will appear in court July 1st.
