N.D.  (NewsDakota.com)  In a non-region contest last night, Post 25 scored just one run through four innings compared to nine from the Owls as Nelson County defeats Carrington 9-6.  In the fifth and six inning, Carrington scored five runs total to close the gap to three runs.  The tying run would come to the plate with two out in the sixth inning, but Post 25 was unable to score anymore runs.  In the five inning game, Carrington won 6-5.  Carrington is now 2-2 overall, Nelson County is 6-2 overall.  The Nelson County Owls Post 162 Legion Baseball team made the move from the Class B Central Region last year to the Class B Northeast Region this season and will compete with such teams as Larimore, Harvey and Cando.

In the seven inning game, Tyler Gravseth worked five innings and picked up the victory for Nelson County.  Gravseth gave up eight hits, one run, one walk and two strikeouts.  Jon Lund worked two innings in relief, allowing five hits and five runs.  Brady Smith took the loss, giving up nine runs and eight hits in three innings.  After the rocky start, Smith retired 10 batters in a row.

At the plate for the Owls, Riley Nelson and Hunter Engel had two hits each and a combined four RBI.  Clean-up batter Dakota Hoyt was 0-for-4.  For Carrington, Brady Smith and Alex Jarrett had two hits each.

Next up for Post 25 with be Thursday (June 11) at Mayville.  This will open Central Region play for Carrington, two seven innings games are scheduled.  AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com will begin coverage about 4:45pm.  Carrington and MayPort met in the High School Class B State Championship game last month in Mandan, Mayville beat Carrington 4-1 and won the Championship.
