CITY, ND – Kindergarten and 1st grade students from Jefferson Elementary School participate in a Lake Day field trip thanks to a grant awarded by the Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation.
90 Kindergarten students planted over 200 trees in the camping and recreation area at Lake Ashtabula. This hands on field trip allowed the students to learn about various species of trees and their roles in our environment.
90 1st grade students learned about water safety, animal pelts, habitats, dam building, native trees, and had a life jacket relay. They were able to learn about the Baldhill Dam and received a private tour by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
“We give a heartfelt thanks to the Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation for the grant opportunity. Without the funding we received we would not have been able to make this outdoor learning experience a reality.” Nicole Powers, teacher at Jefferson Elementary.
The Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation is committed to improving our communities by providing grants to our local organizations and helping to connect them with donors of any size.
