ND. (NewsDakota.com)  Chase Knudson of Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg was not only the winning pitcher in last nights State Championship game but also went 4-for-4 at the plate, scored once, and had two RBI as the Patriots beat Carrington 4-1 to take home the State Championship in North Dakota Class B High School Baseball.  The Cardinals finish the year 19-7-1 and M-P-C-G finishes at 14-8.

Brett Lyman took the loss going five innings allowing three runs (two earned), giving up eight hits, striking out one and walked two.  Braxton Hewitt pitched the final two innings allowing one earned run on two hits, walked two and struck out two.  Offensively for the Cards, they scored one run in the first inning to tie the game and had the bases loaded with one on when Lyman lined a pitch at M-P-C-G second baseman Connor Moore who dropped the liner and created all kinds of confusion for the Cardinal base runners that resulted in a very unusual 4-2-6 double play that ended the Cardinal threat and ultimately the only run of the game.  The Cardinals had two more scoring chances in the fifth and sixth innings but couldn’t get the key hit they needed to close the gap.

M-P-C-G added the deciding runs in the fifth inning when Jacob Klath lined a two-run double into deep left-center field and then they added an insurance run in the sixth inning for the 4-1 final.

Hewitt went 2-for-3 and scored the only run of the game on an Easton Paeper double For Carrington.  Brady Smith, Brady Bickett and Connor Wendel also had base hits for the Cards.

Alex Chandler finished 2-for-4 including the two-run game deciding double in the fifth inning.  Brady Nygaard was 1-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs.
