N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – At around 11:30 PM on Friday, May 15th, deputies from Foster County attempted to pull over a vehicle that did not have a muffler. The vehicle attempted to flee and led officials on a high speed pursuit with speeds reaching up to 100 miles per hour.

According to Foster County Sheriff Ian Mattice, The suspect led them into Eddy County where he got stuck in mud. Deputies approached and attempted to remove the suspect, but he refused. Officers smashed out the windows and forcibly removed the driver who resisted arrest. During the altercation, a pit bull came from out of the suspect’s vehicle and bit one of the deputies twice.

Reports show that there were two other people in the car including a pregnant female. The bitten officer and the two passengers were taken to the hospital. The driver was arrested for fleeing a police officer, resisting arrest, possession of Methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and ammunition by a felon.

While at the hospital, the pit bull escaped custody of the Eddy County Deputy in Carrington. Reports came in about the pit bull threatening individuals around the community. On May 18th, the Carrington Police Department shot the dog, wounding him. Sheriff’s Deputies located and dispatched the pit bull, removing the threat to the public and relieving the suffering dog.
