D.C. – North Dakota Congressman Kevin Cramer made the following statement in honor of Peace Officer Memorial Day this week.

Cramer said while we honor and remember the Peace Officers who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our society safe and secure, we should recognize the dedication and commitment these officers make to our communities every day.

Congressman Cramer joined his colleagues in the House chamber to observe a moment of silence to honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Meanwhile, Valley City native Eric Kiefert serves the House of Representatives as a Capitol Police Officer. Cramer sees Officer Kiefert during his walk to the voting chamber. Capitol Police Officers undergo rigorous training and have exclusive jurisdiction over the grounds of the U.S. Capitol.

Earlier this week a ceremony to honor the 61 peace officers who died in the line of duty since 1882 was held at the state capitol ground in Bismarck.
