N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Public Service Commission will hold a hearing into Xcel Energy’s purchase of a wind farm.

Xcel had earlier told the Commission it would buy the 200 megawatts of wind power to be produced by the Courtenay wind farm in Stutsman County. It was to be built by Geronimo Energy. Now, Xcel says it will build the wind facility.

Commissioner Brian Kalk says in an earlier Xcel electric rate case, it had given the utility an advance notice of prudence for the power purchase agreement. He says the full transfer of the wind farm raises some questions.

The wind farm will have up to 100 turbines. The construction cost is estimated at $300 million.
