N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Farmers Union and Farmers Union Insurance gifted $150,000 in challenge grant funds to the JRMC to help establish an oncology unit for chemotherapy infusions.
The pledge of $150,000 will go on to help provide funding to support the launch of phase one of oncology development at the hospital, including the customization of the current Clinic space to create appropriate rooms for care and provide the necessary tools and equipment for launch. President and CEO of JRMC believes the project will be operation this winter.
Farmers Union president Marke Watnes stated that there is a great need to provide cancer care closer to Jamestown, especially when it comes to chemotherapy treatments.
“If we can make the drive shorter for patients that are otherwise driving to Fargo or Bismarck for infusions, we’ve made a huge difference and impact in the lives of others, and that’s what our organization is all about.” Watne stated.
DeBoer will oversee the unit when it becomes operational. The service will be available for over nine surrounding counties.
