N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – For the first time in several weeks, the fire index for Stutsman and surrounding counties is Low.
The Fire Danger Rating Index, which goes from Low to Extreme, is in Low for the first time since the Statewide Burn Ban was initiated by Governor Jack Dalrymple. Although precipitation has weakened the chance for rapid fire spread, you must contact local fire authorities if you still plan on doing burning of any type.
Governor Dalyrmple’s Burn Ban Declaration was extended through May 8th and depending on conditions, could be lifted after that day or extended. Eddy, Foster, Griggs, Kidder, Stutsman, Barnes, Logan, LaMoure, McIntosh, and Dickey Counties are all in the Low index. Only three counties remain at a Moderate fire index level and they are Burke, Mountrail and Williams Counties.
