CITY, N.D. (VCSU) – Valley City State University men’s basketball coach Jeff Kaminsky has announced the team’s first new addition for the 2015-16 season.

Kaminsky announced Wednesday that Justyn Galloway, a 6-foot-3 guard from Rochester Community and Technical College (Rochester, Minn.), has signed a letter of intent to attend VCSU and play for the Vikings starting this fall.

Galloway averaged 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game this season as he helped RCTC to a third place finish at the NJCAA Division III National Tournament. During his two seasons playing for RCTC, the Yellowjackets were 54-10 and qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament both seasons.

“Justyn comes from a highly successful program at Rochester Community College and will be a great fit at VCSU,” said Kaminsky. “His leadership on and off the court along with his ability will allow him to have an immediate impact in our program. Justyn will be a great addition.”

Galloway led the Yellowjackets in scoring this season. He shot 55 percent from the field and 46 percent on 3-pointers as RCTC posted a 28-5 overall record. Galloway racked up the awards in his sophomore season at RCTC. He was named All Division, All Region and All MCAC (Minnesota Collegiate Athletic Conference). Galloway was also named the 2015 MCAC/Region 13 MVP and was a 2-time All-Tournament selection at the NJCAA National Tournament.

“Justyn was a relentless player on both ends of the court and became a complete player in his two years at RCTC,” said Brian LaPlante, head coach at RCTC. “We wouldn’t have been to two national tournaments without him.”

Galloway will have two seasons of eligibility remaining at VCSU. A native of Kenosha, Wis., he graduated from Reuther High School where he was named Team MVP, All Region and All State. His family includes Dotti Jones and Sam Jennings.
