N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Stutsman County joined others in a simulated state-wide tornado exercise on Wednesday morning as part of Severe Summer Weather Awareness Week.
Part of the exercise included testing the county’s emergency operations plan. The Stutsman County Law Enforcement Center dispatchers activated the siren systems for several communities. The sirens in Medina, Buchanan, and Cleveland were functional but the siren in Streeter and Frontier Village in Jamestown malfunctioned. Both will be repaired and ready for use.
Radio and TV stations were briefly interrupted by the test as well by the National Weather Services through the Emergency Alert Systems. The CodeRED service did not activate either. Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist stated that there were no specific boundaries attached to the warning.
“CodeRED is designed to warn individuals that have addresses within the warned area. And, for the tornado exercise, specific boundaries were not identified.” Bergquist pointed out.
Stutsman County residents can sign up for the free weather alert system for home phones, e-mail’s and cellphones by clicking here.
