CITY, ND – The Valley City commission approved of allowing a group to set up two sites to plant pollinator parks along 5th Avenue Northeast. One would be south of an existing storage unit another would be just east of some softball diamonds.

Valley City School District officials expressed concerned about the park being so close to school property because some students are allergic to bee stings. But Barnes County Extension Educator Randy Grueneich says pollinator parks don’t put people in harm’s way.

Members of the Valley City Beatification committee along with Valley City State University students would take care of the park according to VCSU Wildlife professor Casey Williams.

The Valley City commission unanimously approved of a motion to allow the two entities to pursue building two pollinator parks in Valley City.

On April 13 the Valley City school board voted against the idea of building a pollinator park at the former city lime pit site. School District and Valley City Park & Recreation officials support the idea of building a softball diamond at that site instead.
