DUNES, S.D. (NewsDakota.com) The University of Jamestown men’s golf team overcame a three stroke deficit to Edward Waters (FL) to capture the NSAA/GCAC championship on Tuesday. The win advances the Jimmies to the NAIA National Tournament on May 19th in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The Jimmies ended the final day of play with a team score of 332 creating a four stroke buffer between themselves and Edward Waters. Leading the way for Jamestown was Michael Strain who carded a three round 247 to place second. He finished one stroke ahead of Valley City State’s Ben Sorenson. Edward Waters’ Guido Vidotto won the individual event with a 240.
After the first two rounds the Vikings had a team score of 728. On day two they would card the best round of golf on the weekend with a team score of 327. Unfortunately, after the tough first day the Vikings would finish in just fourth place. Valley City’s Kyle Wiebe would also card the best round of golf on the weekend scoring a 75 in his final round of play.
