CITY, ND – The Valley City school board voted against the idea of building a pollinator park on the site of the former city lime pit. Some school district officials support the idea of the park but believe to should be built somewhere else.

Superintendent Dean Koppelman supports the idea of building a softball diamond at that site being the city will lose one with the permanent flood protection project.

Some school officials believe the park would bring in more bees and they expressed concern for students who are allergic to bee stings.

The motion passed 3 to one. Rick Ross voted against it. He believes fears of bee stings from the proposed pollinator park may be unfounded after he discussed the issue with wildlife officials at Valley City State University.
