CITY, ND – It’s too close to call that’s the word from Maple Valley School district Superintendent Brian Wolf. He tells KOVC radio news that 450 people voted yes and 303 voted no. The unofficial results are 59.76 in favor and under North Dakota law a school bond needs 60 percent or more to pass.
Wolf says 18 absentee ballots will be opened during canvasing on Monday, April 20 just before the 7 o’clock school board meeting. He says the official results will be announced Monday once a final figure is known.
753 voters cast ballots in the April 14 school bond election compared to 574 votes in the January election.
Voters went to the polls to decide the fate of a $10.3 million school bond issue that would close two schools, one in Buffalo and another in Oriska.
Under the plan the district would renovate an existing structure in Tower City to bring all students into one building if the bond passes.
