N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Governor Jack Dalrymple has announced the extension of his executive order to protect against fire outbreaks in North Dakota.
The original order was in effect until Wednesday, April 15th, but has now been extended as a statewide emergency until April 30th. Dalrymple informed the public of burn bans for areas in the state with a fire index rating of High, Very High, or Extreme or when a Red Flag Warning has been issued for an area. According to Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist, this is the first time an issue like this has been circulated.
“This is actually the first time we’ve ever seen this. So it’s sort of new to everyone.” Bergquist stated.
The executive order extension comes in response to the dry conditions in the state that cause rapid fire spread and encourage extreme fire behavior.
