CITY, ND – A 20 year-old Valley City man faces a number of charges including driving under the influence and minor in possession of alcohol after he crashed his vehicle into outside signs at Northwest Industries just before 1am Thursday morning in Valley City.

Police Chief Fred Thompson tells KOVC radio news that the man was driving a 2004 Hyundai west on main and failed to negotiate a curve in the road and crashed into a sign pole. According to a police department news release the man was identified as 20 year-old Dakota A. Zaun.

Thompson says an off duty EMT employee helped get the man out of his vehicle that caught on fire. He was transported to CHI Mercy Hospital for treatment of injuries. Police officers and Valley City firefighters extinguished the vehicle fire at the scene.

Northwest Industries owner Leon Pytlik says he didn’t know what to think when he first saw the debris and damage to his signs once he got to the store Thursday morning.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with details of this incident should call the Valley City police department at 845-3110.
