(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School baseball team improved to 2-0 in Class B Region I play after earning a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Enderlin/Maple Valley in nine innings at Hendrickson Field Thursday evening.
The Tornadoes scored a run in the first and second innings, while pitcher Bryce Meehl only allowed two hits through the first five innings. Things began to turn in the bottom of the sixth, when the Falcons (0-2 Class B Region 1), put two runs across on three hits to tie up the game.
In the ninth, Oakes scored two unearned runs off of Jesse Johnson as the Falcon defense committed two costly errors. Jon Tyre came on in the eighth; allowing just one hit in his two innings of scoreless work to earn his second win of the year.
Meehl had two hits and scored a run in the victory, while Dalton Anderson did the same for EMV in the loss.
The second contest, a non-region game, saw EMV win 11-1 in three innings. Overall, the Tornadoes are 2-2 this year.
Oakes will next play in Valley City on Monday, April 13 at Charlie Brown Field. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com will start at 4:45 p.m., with first pitch at 5 p.m.
