CITY, ND – Barnes County Social Services will move into the soon to be vacated office of City County Health once they move into the former First Community Credit Union building later this month.

The issue has been debated for a long time as the county commission struggles to find answers on how or where to relocate other departments inside the cramped Barnes County Courthouse.

Commissioner Mike Metcalf supports the option of adding on to the courthouse or looking for more office space off campus.

The motion was approved on a 4 to one vote with Rodger Berntson voting against the plan. He supports moving the Sheriff’s office into the courthouse to enhance security.

City County Health Director Theresa Will told the commission that their offices will be closed Friday, April 24 to move their office equipment to the new building. Will says the City County Health office should reopen to the public on Monday, April 27.

Some remodeling will be required before Barnes County Social Services can move into the former city county health office space located on the main floor in the northeast corner of the courthouse.

Meanwhile the commission also approved of moving the offices of Management Information Systems Director Jason Thiel and his assistant Brock Anderson into the soon to be vacated city county health offices in the Barnes County courthouse.
