CITY, ND – Work on the first phase of the Valley City permanent flood protection project began on Monday as the sub-contractor Strata Corporation removed trees to start the preliminary work of the project for contractor Swanberg Inc.
KLJ engineer Eric Gilbertson is the project manager. He tells us that the first phase of the project should take about 18 months to complete.
Gilbertson says KLJ and Valley City officials held a meeting on Thursday, April 2 with residents who live in the area of the project to explain and discuss the first phase of construction.
The first closure on 5th Avenue southwest is between Viking Drive and 4th Street southwest. Updated maps for all road closures will be posted on the city of Valley City’s website www.valleycity.us
Anyone with questions about the project should call the KLJ office in Valley City at 845-4980. Below are a few photos taken by Steve Urness on the first day of the project.
