CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City School board took the first step to start the search process to replace Superintendent Dean Koppelman who will retire at the end of the 2015-2016 year.

For a fee, the North Dakota School Boards Association will provide guidance to the school board as they search for a new superintendent.

Braunagel said the State School board Associations fee of $8,000 is based on school districts that have an enrollment of more than 1,000 students.

Braunagel said the early announcement of retirement by Koppelman will help the school board greatly. Koppelman has been the school district’s superintendent for 17 years. The position will be advertised in the fall of 2015.
