N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The head of North Dakota’s largest farm organization says the group will press Governor Dalrymple to veto a bill passed that exempts pork and dairy operations from the state’s 1932 anti-corporate farming law.

State Farmers Union President Mark Watne says the legislation could do more harm than help for the state’s struggling dairy and hog operations:

Watne stated that the farmers union won’t rule out a petition drive to refer the measure to a statewide vote should the governor sign the bill into law. Dalrymple Spokesman’s Jeff Zent says the bill now goes back to the senate for possible changes and until the governor reviews the final language, he won’t make a decision.

The bill passed the house 56-37 yesterday. The senate approved it last month.
