(NewsDakota.com) It’s been quite a start to the month of March for the high school varsity basketball teams from LaMoure-Litchville/Marion.
After the girls team advanced to the State Class B Girls Basketball Tournament and took third place just last week, the boys of LLM heading to the State B Boys Tournament next week after a 45-43 victory Thursday night at the Jamestown Civic Center in the Class B Region III Championship.
Both teams started off a touch slow, with neither club registering a point until roughly three minutes into the game. LLM had a lead as large as 13 in the second half, before Oakes was able to pull within one possession with under a minute and a half left in the contest. However, a clutch three by Drew Thielges and two free throws by Anthony Olson shut the door on any chance for Oakes to have the lead at the final gun.
The Loboes had a team high 16 points and 11 rebounds from Olson, while Ethan Zetocha had 14 points and Bryce Meehl contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Tornadoes; who for the second straight year, have fallen in a Regional Championship match; last year losing to eventual State Champion Fargo Oak Grove
In the Third Place game, Linton-HMB defeated Strasburg-Zeeland by a 57-51 margin. The victorious Lions had 32 from Jon Purintin to lead them to the third place finish.
The Loboes will be headed to the 2015 North Dakota Class B State Boys Basketball Tournament set for March 19-21 at the Bismarck Event Center. The pairings for the tournament will be announced Friday afternoon.
