CITY, IA (NewsDakota.com) – Trailing by eight late in the first half, the Jimmie women when on a run to put themselves in position to move to the NAIA Quarterfinals for the 1st time in program history. Jamestown eventually made the plays down the stretch to beat the Wolves, 58-53 Friday afternoon from the Tyson Event Center.

The Wolves controlled the tempo in the first half and pushed their lead to eight, before Jamestown began to chip away. Chelsey Frydenlund’s driving lay-up with one second remaining in the half pulled the Jimmies within 24-22 heading into the break.

Jamestown has certainly been a second half team, thanks to the depth that teams in the NSAA can’t match. Cardinal Stritch came out with five quick points right out of the break to stretch the lead to seven. After that Jamestown countered with a 22-3 run to go up by 12.

The Wolves didn’t get the lead back, but were able to cut the deficit down to three. The Jimmies got a pair of driving layups from Kyra Dewald and Jessica Buck to stay in front in the final minutes.

Bryn Woodside, as she did in the first round, sealed the game with two free throws and the Wolves within three with 8.2 seconds left.

Jamestown will play No. 3-ranked Concordia at 3pm Saturday afternoon on ESPN Jamestown 1400/97.1 and NewsDakota.com.
