CITY, IA (NewsDakota.com) – Bryn Woodside’s free throws in the final minute helped seal Jamestown’s opening round win in the NAIA National Tournament over St. Thomas (FL). It’s the fourth consecutive year that the Jimmies are in the Round of 16, but the three previous trips all ended there.
Jamestown came out of the gates with a 10-0 run to start backed by a pair of triples from Chelsey Frydenlund. In both halves, the Jimmies held leads of 16 and 18 but saw the Bobcats slash them to four both times. Jamestown took a four-point lead into the break at 35-31 after leading by 16.
The Jimmies started quickly in the second half and grew their lead to 18. But as they did in the first 20 minutes, the Bobcats created some tension at the end. St. Thomas pulled within four, before Woodside added to her game-high 18 points with six straight free throws.
Jamestown will play Cardinal Stritch at 12pm Friday. The game coverage will be dependent on what happens with the Jamestown High boys basketball team in the state tournament Friday afternoon.
If the Jays win, the Jimmie game will be on ESPN Jamestown 1400/97.1. The Jays lose both teams will play 12pm which will bump the Jimmies to 98.3 FM.
