(NewsDakota.com) An Oakes man’s medical condition led to a Monday evening crash that damaged a convenience store in town.

The Oakes Police Department says 80 year-old Joseph Dethelfsen was attempting to park at the Farmland Ampride Convenience store in Oakes shortly after 5 p.m. Monday when he blacked out due to a medical condition; driving his vehicle through the north entrance of the store.

There were no customers in the store at the time of the accident. Dethlefsen was taken to an area clinic, treated and released. Damage to the building and vehicle is estimated at $25,000.
