(NewsDakota.com) Just like the girls a couple of weeks ago, the Class B Region III Boys Basketball Championship game on Thursday will be a rematch of the District 5 Championship game, and both teams will meet for the third time this season.
LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 64 Strasburg/Zeeland 54
In the first of the two semifinal games, the Loboes lead the entire contest. LLM had a lead as large as 16 dwindle down to just a single point, but the Clippers never made it any closer. LLM returns to the championship game for the first time since 2013, when they won the region, and advanced to the State Class B Boys Basketball Tournament.
The Loboes had four players with double figures, lead by Drew Thielges’ 19 points. Anthony Olson had 14 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.
Oakes 72 Linton-HMB 69
In the second semifinal, the Tornadoes punched their second consecutive ticket to a Class B Regional Championship after an epic battle with the defending Region III Champions. There were eight lead changes and five ties throughout the course of the game.
Bryce Meehl registered 25 points for the victorious Tornadoes, who made it to the Region I Championship game last year; ultimately falling to the eventual State Champions from Fargo Oak Grove. Jon Purintun picked up a double-double with 37 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
The third place game will feature Strasburg/Zeeland and Linton-HMB at 6 p.m. Thursday; a rematch of last year’s Region III Championship. The 2015 North Dakota Class B Region III Boys Basketball Championship will start around 7:30 p.m. with LaMoure-Litchville/Marion and Oakes meeting for the third time this year; the winner will advance to the 2015 North Dakota State Class B Boys Basketball Tournament next week in Bismarck at the Bismarck Events Center.
