N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council met during their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Monday, March 2nd at the City Hall.
It was a brief, but very productive meeting for the city. Leo Ryan attended as the newly appointed City Attorney after Ken Dalstead announced he would be stepping down after 20 years.
Many items were approved on the consent agenda including the approval to provide a loan to SEPA from Economic Development funds in the amount of $785,000 to pay for the BNSF heated and automated switch at the Spiritwood Energy Rail loop. The city’s share will be $706,500 and will be paid from the City Sales Tax Fund.
Another resolution passed included awarding a bid for Civic Center Equipment Replacement for basketball flooring, costing near $100,000 and basketball backboards at a cost of roughly $27,000.
On the regular agenda was a request from GRE for an amendment to the Spiritwood Station Water Supply and Discharge Agreement. City Attorney Leo Ryan stated some concerns.
The item was passed, pending further study performed by the City Attorney.
Many first readings took place during the meeting including landscaping requirements and seizure of vehicles for certain violations. These will be further looked at for future meetings. The new fireworks ordinance was also enacted and approved after a second reading by the council.
There was an appointment of Tonya Duffy to serve as an assistant City Prosecutor by the council during the meeting. Mayor Katie Andersen stated that it was just a precaution.
During the final parts of the meeting, it was unanimously approved by the council for street closings for the 27th Annual Running of the Green. The final approved request came for the JSDC to enter into a lease for office space inside the Center for Economic Development with Aaron McCardle of Nodak Mutual Insurance. The space was previously occupied by the South Central Dakota Regional Council.
