CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) In the first postseason game at W.E. Osmon Fieldhous since 2011, the Valley City State women’s basketball team made sure there would be a second home game with a 68-62 win over Dakota State in overtime.
With the win the Vikings advance to the North Star Athletic Association Semifinals on Saturday against Mayville State.
Georgia Williams was her usual self, knocking down 6 three-pointers and totaling a game high 23 points for the Vikings. Perhaps her biggest three point play came on lay up and free throw in overtime the lifted Valley City to a 4 point lead with just over half a minute to play.
In the highly physical game, the Viking out rebounded the Trojans pulling down 51 boards, 19 of which came on the offensive glass. The Trojans had 49 rebounds in the game. A big reason for the Vikings success under the basket came from the play of senior forward Sierra Even who garbed a team high 12 rebounds.
The leading scorer for the Trojans was Madison Walford who tallied 16 points and 5 rebounds. Courtney Hulstein finished the game with 15 in the loss.
Four Vikings finished in double digits. Aside from Williams 23 point night, Allyson Suhr scored 12, Lexi Lennon tallied 11, and Steph Pedersen finished the game with 10 points.
The Vikings will return to the court on Saturday when they host Mayville State.
