ND (NewsDakota.com) The first day of the Region 3 Girls Basketball Tourney saw the top seeds roll past their opponents and advance to the semifinal round on Tuesday night at the Jamestown Civic Center. Below are the results:
Game 1: D6 #1 Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter defeats D5 #4 Barnes County North 55-40
After dropping their last five games of the year, the District 6 Champions have won four in a row and move into the semifinals against Carrington, who they lost to by 12 points during their five game skid. Senior Shania Gross had 17 to lead the Imperials. BCN was led by Abby Undem with 13 points. The Imperials are now 13-10, the Bison end their season at 15-11.
Game 2: D5 #2 Carrington defeats D6 #3 Strasburg/Zeeland 54-48
The Lady Cardinals improve to 19-3 as they beat the Clippers in their first and only meeting of the season. Senior Brooke Rosenau had a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds for Carrington. Brittany Moser of the Clippers scored the most points of any player on opening day of the tourney with 27 points.
Game 3: D5 #1 Lamoure/LM defeats D6 #4 Medina/Pingree-Buchanan 40-32
The Loboes get their 19th victory of the year and improve to 19-4, leading the way for Lamoure/Litchville-Marion was Junior Jacey Alber with 10 points and eight rebounds. The Thunder were led by Junior Jordan Thomas with 13 points and 16 rebounds. MPB shot 34% from the field and were 8/20 at the charity stripe.
Game 4: D6 #2 Kidder County defeats D5 #3 Ellendale 41-16
The defending Region 3 Champs from last year make their way back into the semifinal game as they beat the Cardinals in the last game last night. The Lady Pirates had a total of 22 steals, six apiece for Grace Benz and Rebecca Schmidt. Leading the way in the scoring column for KC was Junior Paige Schmidt with 24 points.
