(NewsDakota.com) The Valley City State Vikings basketball teams warped up the regular season with a sweep of Presentation College on the road in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The Women dominated the Saints in a 88-50 win. The Men picked up their second conference win of the season with an 87-82 win in overtime.

From start to finish the Vikings dominated the Saints in the final regular season game. Georgia Williams got the Vikings started with two big three-pointers. The Vikings would never relinquish the lead after that. The Saints got strong play from Haley Froelich who tallied 15 points in the first half and helped PC stay with in reach of the Vikings. In the second half, the Vikings stingy defense kept Froelich off the board. That, combined with 45 percent shooting from the field allowed Valley to cruise to the win.
Courtney Dixon led the game in scoring with a career high 24 point night off of the bench. Williams posted 14 points, Sadiqah Jihad scored 12 while Lexi Lennon and Tracy Boehmlehner each posted 11 off the bench for the Vikings.
The Vikings clinch second place in the conference with the win. They end the regular season with a North Star record of 8-2. They finish 20-8 overall.
The Vikings will host the opening round of the North Star Athletic Association tournament on Wednesday night when they play Dakota State.
Men: Valley City 87 Presentation College 82 OT
With just over 10 seconds to play Valley City’s Mac Kroeplin found a lose ball at the free throw line and hit a 15 footer to send the game into overtime. The Vikings would then outscore the Saints 13-8 in the extra period to end Presentation’s chances of a regular season championship and the one seed in next weeks NSAA tournament.
VCSU Jayden Ferguson posted a game high 29 points for the Vikings. As a team, the Vikings shot an outstanding 50 percent from the field to hold off a Presentation College team that out rebounded the Vikings 40-30 overall and 18-8 on the offensive glass.
Riley West had 20 points in the win while Briton Bussman posted 12 for the Vikings. The Saints were led on the court by a 22 point game from Jeremy Comer. Nick Gillett and Cameron Isreal each had 20 points.
The Vikings enter the North Star postseason tournament as the six seed with a conference record of 2-8. They will play on the road at the University of Jamestown Wednesday night.
