CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City boys basketball team hosted West Fargo Sheyenne while the Hi-Liner girls were on the road at Sheyenne High School. The Mustangs would capture the win over the Hi-Liners at in Valley City by a score of 57-50. The Hi-Liner girls edged the Mustangs in two overtimes 74-66.
Boys: Valley City 50 West Fargo Sheyenne 57
After taking an early lead, Valley City struggled to hit shots allowing Sheyenne to take the advantage into the halftime break. The two sides would change leads through out the second half but as time drew to a close it was the Mustangs who once again defeated the Hi-Liners by seven points.
Sheyenne’s Eric Ringdahl posted a game high 22 points, while Andy Stephan was close behind with 18 points in the win. Valley City’s Nate Rodriguez and Jared Lentz each finished the game with double-doubles. Rodriguez posted 18 points and 10 rebounds. Lentz just topped his teammate with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
The Hi-Liners are now 4-14 in the Eastern Dakota Conference they hold an overall record of 4-13 on the season.
Girls: Valley City 74 West Fargo Sheyenne 66
The Hi-Liners outscored the Mustangs 12-5 in the second overtime to claim their sixth victory of the year and second win over Sheyenne of the season.
Clair Olson led the way for the Hi-Liners with a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds. Brenna Dieterle and Rebekah Peterson each led the Lady Liners with 17 points. West Fargo Sheynne’s Kierra Freih had a game high 22 points in the loss.
The Hi-Liners advance to 7-13 on the season and hold a conference mark of 6-13.
The Hi-Liners return to the court next Tuesday, Feb. 24. The boys will play at West Fargo while the girls wrap up the regular season at the Hi-Liner Activity Center. The girls game can be heard on 1490 KOVC starting at 7:30pm
